Introduction
This article covers different ways to set up grading, automatic feedback for individual quiz questions, and layout.
Adding Quiz Questions
To add quiz questions and manage your quiz settings, you will need to open up the Questions tab in Classic Quizzes:
- Click on the quiz name
- Select the second tab along the top menu labeled Questions (marker 1)
- Click the Add Question button (marker 2)

Classic Quizzes Question Types

| Fill-in-the-Blank | Fill in-the-blank questions can have one or multiple blank spaces. Student answers are not case-sensitive, and you can add as many possible correct answers as needed. Students need to type answers to match exactly in order to automatically receive credit. You may need to manually override an answer submission you will accept. *Question types with an asterisk next to the name can be regraded.
Question Features
General Requirements
Regardless of question type, you will be required to:
- Name your Question: Questions are not automatically numbered. Creating unique question names will help when you go to search for a question later.
- Add Point Value: You can customize the point value for each question.
- Enter Question Text: Use the Rich Content Editor to enter the question, additional instructions, and information
- Enter Answers:
- Correct answer(s): green box outline
- Incorrect answer(s): red box outline
- Distractors: For matching questions only, you can enter distractors
Optional Requirements
- Add Question Title: This is not visible to students
- Set Options: click on this drop-down menu to enable the calculator
- Add Automatic Feedback:
- Individual answer choice feedback will appear immediately after the attempt is submitted and directly under the selection.
- For feedback to appear at the bottom of the question, you can enter feedback for correct (denoted with a green box), incorrect (denoted with a red box), or general feedback (denoted with a blue box).
- Feedback for individual answer choices and/or general feedback regardless of answer will be entered using the Rich Content Editor block will open. Therefore, your feedback can include written text, images, videos, and hyperlinks.
Editing Questions
If you need to edit your questions after you have created them:
- click on quiz name
- click on the edit button
- click on the Questions tab
- You can rearrange your questions as needed by using the handle
- select the pencil icon next to the question you wish to edit to update the question, point value, and feedback back comments
- select the X icon to delete the question
If you want to change how your questions display, either all on one page, or one at a time, you will need to edit this quiz question setting from the Details tab
