Introduction
For hybrid, flexible, and online courses, you are required to report when students have completed a Course Entry Quiz by the census date. If a student has not completed the course entry quiz by the census date, that student will be dropped from the course.
We require that you use a Canvas Quiz titled "Course Entry Quiz" rather than an assignment or discussion forum. This helps create consistency between courses and for your students.

Course Entry Quiz Settings

Due Date
Confirm your census date. You can locate the census date for your course through StormTrac by opening the Faculty tab and viewing your current semester courses. There will be a column for the census date for each active course.
You can also verify your census date through the shared spreadsheet that gets sent via email at the beginning of each semester.
If you copy a course over to a new semester, keep in mind that census dates shift and so therefore you will need to edit your due date for the Course Entry Quiz. Canvas has a useful tool to help edit due dates for your assignments in bulk. You can learn more how to do this by reading the Date Report: Bulk Edit Due Dates, or you can simply edit your due dates manually by going to the timing section of your Course Entry Quiz settings.
Auto submissions
The default submission setting for Canvas quizzes is to have incomplete quizzes submitted automatically once the deadline has passed. This will ensure that an attempt made will be recorded with a timestamp that aligns with the census date.
Restrict Access
Some instructors will not allow students to access the rest of the course until the Course Entry Quiz is completed. If you would like to know how to set this up, you can read the Restrict Access article.

If you want to assign your Course Entry Quiz as extra credit, take a look at this Extra Credit article. If this is the route you decide, please note that you need to first create the Course Entry Quiz assignment to appear in the gradebook before you are able to assign it as extra credit.
