Troubleshooting Reminders

What devices can students use to test on?

  • Macs (macOS 13 or higher)
  • Windows PCs (Windows 10 or 11)
  • Google Chrome (Version 120 or higher)

What devices can students not use to test on?

  • Tablets (including iPads and Android tablets)
  • Smartphones (iPhone, Android)
  • Dual monitors

If a student is allowed 2-hours for the exam, does the student have to start the exam at least 2 hours before the close of the exam or will it stay open until they are finished if they start for example, 30 minutes before the exam end time?

The system will NOT allow a student to start their two-hour exam if a test provides a longer amount of time than when the exam closes.

An example:

An exam gives a student 2 hours to complete it, but there are only 30 minutes left before the exam closes. This exam cannot be completed.

This is due to the Online Proctoring Platform not having any ability to extend the exam window set by the instructor in the exam platform. Online Proctoring will not allow students to enter an exam if they have less than the duration of the exam plus an additional 30 minutes to the deadline. The additional 30 minutes is provided to allow the student time for onboarding and any possible troubleshooting that might need to take place.

What can be done to improve internet connection speeds when using Online Proctoring?

Use some of the following tips to ensure that your connection speed is as fast as possible:

  • Ensure that no one else is on your network streaming videos like Netflix or Youtube. This can cause a slow down in your internet connection.
  • Restart your computer. It is always good to restart your computer to ensure that nothing is running in the background that you are unaware of. Additionally, it is good to free up any extra system resources that are being consumed.
  • Connect to the Internet via a hard-wired ethernet connection. Ethernet connections are always more reliable and faster than WiFi connections.
  • Ensure that no software is running on your computer that is eating up your bandwidth. For example, backup software.
