Introduction

Before you assign a student an incomplete grade:

  • Be aware of the College Policy for Incomplete Grades
  • Have documented communication between yourself and the student before providing an incomplete grade.

Davidson-Davie's Incomplete Grade Policy

The College definition and policy for an Incomplete Grade includes:
The student has completed the major portion of the course and due to extenuating circumstances, has not been able to complete all the requirements. Students should be able to complete the course with minimal assistance from the instructor. No quality points awarded. The student is responsible for contacting the instructor to make arrangements for completing the requirements for removing the "I" grade. If the student is unable to reach the instructor, the student should contact the instructor's immediate supervisor, as indicated in the course syllabus. If the "I" grade is not removed by the end of the 12th week following the semester in which it was given, the grade will automatically be converted to a grade of "F," unless an exception is approved dur to extenuating circumstances.

Creating the Incomplete Request

  1. Enter final grade as an "I" for Incomplete.
  2. Fill out the Incomplete form request (opens in a new tab).
  3. Once the Incomplete date has passed, or expired, follow the steps for a Grade Change Request

When we get a submission to the form, the student is assigned a new role in your Moodle course called "Incomplete Student." This role in Moodle allows the student to see a course that is currently not visible to others. We will need:

  • the full student name
  • the full course section name
  • and how long they will need access

The course will be visible to them, but they may need to filter by "All" courses on their My Courses page and you may need to alter the visibility, due dates, or exceptions/restrictions on individual items or activities within your course if they have closed.  Please allow for two business days before verifying with the student if they can still access the course.
