You just hit play, right? Well, technically, yes. But when you're watching a video that was recorded in YuJa, you have some extra options that can make the viewing experience even better.
Sidebar Tools
When you hover over the video, the control bar appears at the bottom of the video. On the right end of the bar, you should see icons to turn the captions on and off, the sidebar icon, and the settings icon. The sidebar icon is the one that looks like a box that's filled halfway with a solid rectangle.
When you open the side bar, you will find another way to access video captions, the video's index which works like YouTube's chapters and helps you find different topics in the video, a place to take notes, and a link to download the video's transcript.
- Captions - The video should automatically play the captions at the bottom of the video, but you can also open the captions in the sidebar. These captions are clickable and you can move to a particular point in the video by clicking on the caption.
- Indexes - Indexes allow users to jump to specific sections of the video. AI creates the indexes automatically so they may or may not be helpful, but sometimes instructors may make their own indexes.
- Notes - You can take your own notes by typing into the provided box. Click the blue arrow and the note will appear in the column with the timestamp from the video. When you're finished, you can download the notes you've made.
- Transcript - If you would like a transcript for your notes you can download it in PDF form.
Manage video streams
Move the webcam video
If your instructor filmed a webcam video of themselves talking, you can click and drag the webcam video around the screen if it's blocking your view. You can also grab the corner of the webcam video and make it larger or smaller by dragging it.
Change the appearance of the video streams
If your instructor filmed their video using multiple streams (for example a webcam feed and a screen recording) you can arrange the feeds to make them easier for you to see. When you hover over the video, two icons appear on the upper right side of the screen. Click on the lower one and you will open icons that allow you to change how you view the video.
- Gallery view - The icon for this view looks like 4 equal-sized blocks arranged in a square. Using this icon will place the video streams side by side so you can watch both.
- Presenter View - The icon for this view has 3 small box lined up horizontally next to a larger box. This view also shows the two streams side by side, but, if the video has indexes, they appear below the webcam video. Indexes are like YouTube chapters and allow watchers to skip to different sections of the video by click in on them.
- Single Stream View - The icon for this view is a single solid square. When you choose this icon, it will show you only one stream. By default, it shows the screen recording instead of the webcam but you can switch if you want to by using the Switch icon which you can read about later in this tutorial.
- Picture in picture view - The icon for this view is a solid colored box inside a larger see-through box. This is the default view for videos with multiple streams. This view shows the instructor webcam in the top left corner overlayed on top of a power point or screenshare video. Remember, in this format you can move or change the size of the webcam video if it's in the way.
Switch Video Streams
If your instructor filmed their video using multiple streams (for example a webcam feed and a screen recording) you can arrange the feeds to make them easier for you to see. When you hover over the video, two icons appear on the upper right side of the screen. Click on the upper one to switch the streams to reverse which one is bigger or which one is showing. The icon looks like two arrows pointing in a square.
