Messaging your Instructor from inside of Moodle

  1. Visit and log-in to Moodle: https://moodle.davidsondavie.edu/
  2. Select My Courses

  3. Navigate to the course section that you need the instructor's contact information for

  4. Check the top of your course and/or your course syllabus document where the instructor’s contact details are often provided.

  5. Copy the instructor’s email address

  6. Go to your email and paste you instructor's email address in “Recipient” or “To:”

  7. Type your Subject in subject line and write the body of your email content. See more Tips for writing a good email below. 

  8. Add attachments - If applicable, attach any relevant files or documents.

  9. Select ‘Send’



Send an email using Gmail

  1. Access Davidson-Davie Gmail at http://mail.davidsondavie.edu/

  2. Log in

  3. Then click the ‘Compose’ button to start a new email.

  4. Enter your instructor’s email address in the “To” field. 

  5. Write a well-crafted subject/title in the subject line and write your email in the space provided below the subject line. See more Tips for writing a good email below. 

  6. Attachments - If applicable, attach any relevant files or documents. 

  7. Double-check the recipient’s email address, subject line, and message content to ensure accuracy.

  8. Select ‘Send’ 

Note - If you have contacted your instructor before, you may select “To”. Your contacts will be displayed and you can choose the instructor's email from the list.



Tips for writing a good email

Every email should include…

  1. Subject/Title: Be specific. Include your course full section ID (e.g., Assignment Inquiry for BUS-153-1WA), your name, and the purpose of your email 

  2. Greeting/Salutation: Start with a proper greeting (e.g., Dear Professor [Last Name]). 

  3. Body: Clearly state the reason for your email, be concise but provide enough detail. Include relevant information like the course name, assignment details, and any questions you have. 

  4. Closing: End your email with a polite sign-off (e.g., Thank you, Regards) and your full name.
