Introduction

The Moodle 4.3.4 update includes a new feature that allows you to customize your Activities/Resource page to make inserting Moodle tools into your course more streamlined.

Updated Activities and Resources

Once you are in editing mode in your Moodle course, you can click on the link to add an activity or resource.  The main pop-up page will look much like the activities and resources page before the update.  You will see four main tabs across the top labeled Recommended, All, Activities, and Resources.  Use the table below the image to learn more about the breakdown of each tab.

Add an activity or resource pop-up window in Moodle with the four available tabs outlined. Moving left to right, marker one identifies the Recommended tab, marker two identifies the All tab, marker three identifies the Activities tab, and marker four identifies the Resources tab.

TabDescription

1. Recommended

This tab includes activities and resources that are general and frequently used by many instructors, arranged in alphabetical order

2. All

Every activity and resource available to add into your Moodle course, arranged in alphabetical order.  This now includes individual tool icons for every external tool available in Moodle
3. ActivitiesActivities include tools that students must engage with by contributing their own work or demonstrating knowledge such as an assignment, journal, or quiz
4. ResourcesResources include tools that students do not need to interact with beyond reading such as a text box, URL, or folder

Customizing your Activities and Resources

You are now able to customize which activities and resources you would like to have easily accessible as you build your Moodle page.

Click on the star icon located with each tool.

If you use external tools, you will want to make sure you go to the All tab to find the specific external tool by name you wish to add to your course

Add an activity or resource pop-up window in Moodle with the All tab selected. A circle and arrow call attention to the empty star icon located with each tool. The stars for Assignment, Forum, H5P, and Pearson are identified for examples.

Now that you have starred the activities and resources you want, you will see that you have an added tab labeled Starred that will appear first in your tab list.  This is the tab that will open first each time you go to add an activity or resource into your Moodle course.

To remove a tool from your Starred tab, simply unclick the star.

Add an activity or resource pop-up window in Moodle with a Starred tab located to the left of the Recommend tab. The Starred tab is outlined, and nine tools are located on the page with filled in stars.
