What is the Testing Center and how do I schedule virtual proctoring?

The Learning Commons houses the Testing Center for the College which provides testing for classes/courses, special testing for academic programs, continuing education programs, HiSET, GED, Pearson VUE, TEAS, CASAS, TABE, HCI, and WorkKeys testing for the Career Readiness Certificate. Students who have been instructed to test in the Testing Center should schedule an appointment at least 24 hours in advance by visiting the Learning Commons Assessment Support web page (opens in a new window). When scheduling testing/assessment appointments, it is recommended to review the student testing guidelines.

For more information, please come by to see us or visit our Learning Commons website (opens in new window).

Share details about virtual proctoring with your students

Consider including the example language below in your syllabus and early in the semester with your students. Copy and edit the template below as needed:

This course uses virtual test proctoring! Students may take exams online using a tool called SmarterProctoring available inside of Moodle. Review all details below before testing.

In order to use SmarterProctoring you will need to have access to:

  • A stable internet connection
  • A laptop or PC with an up-to-date Chrome web browser. Tablets and mobile devices will not connect to SmarterProctoring online. You will be asked to install the SmarterProctoring extension on your Chrome web-browser during your test on-boarding.
  • A quiet, distraction free testing environment. Talking to others or using your phone during the exam is not permitted.
  • A working web camera and microphone. Wear appropriate clothing, you are being recorded. Your face must remain in view of the camera at all times during the test. If your face is not visible in all or parts of the recording you may be penalized (which may include: a reduced grade, receive a zero on the test, or being required to re-test).
  • Depending on your course, you may also need to show a photo ID

It is strongly recommended that you take any practice test your teacher has posted on SmarterProctoring BEFORE you attempt your first exam. To start your test, you may need to click into a password field and then click "Inject Password" before you can start the test. If you need support during an exam or practice test, click the "Support" button in the SmarterProcting utility bar (normally on the left side of your screen) to get live help.

If you do not have access to stable internet or technology needed, you may also choose to schedule your test with the Testing Center on the Davidson-Davie campus or borrow a laptop as needed from the laptop kiosk located in the Learning Commons (Love Building, Davidson campus).
