Introduction

Zoom allows users to adjust the accessibility settings to fit their needs and preferences. 


Steps to Access Settings

  1. Open the Zoom app and login.
  2. Click on the "Settings" cog wheel.
  3. In the "Settings" box, click on "Accessibility," located on the sidebar menu.

The accessibility options include:

  • Closed Caption
  • Dim Screen Share Video
  • Chat Display Size
  • Screen Reader Alerts

Closed Caption allows you to change the size and color of the caption text. There is also a checkbox to "Always show captions" if you want captions to be turned on every time you use your Davidson-Davie Zoom account.


Dim Screen Share Video "automatically dims video when flashing images or visual patterns (such as stripes) are detected." This can be helpful for those who experience seizures or migraines.

Chat Display Size can be changed to the following percentages:

  • 80%
  • 100%
  • 120%
  • 150%
  • 180%
  • 200%


Screen Reader Alerts are activated when screen reader software (e.g. NVDA, JAWS) is used. Screen readers are most often used by people who have low vision or blindness. Users can enable or disable these alerts:

  • IM Chat Received
  • Participant Has Joined/Left Meeting (Host Only)
  • Participant Has Joined/Left Waiting Room (Host Only)
  • Audio Muted by Host
  • Video Stopped by Host
  • Screen Sharing Started/Stopped by a Participant
  • Recording Permission Granted/Revoked
  • Public In-Meeting Chat Received
  • Private In-Meeting Chat Received
  • In-Meeting File Upload Completed
  • Closed Captioning is Available
  • Closed Captioning Typing Privilege Granted/Revoked
  • Host Privilege Granted/Revoked
  • Co-host Privilege Granted/Revoked
  • Remote Control Permission Granted/Received
  • Livestream Started/Stopped
  • Participant Has Raised Lowered Hand (Host Only)
