Create an Account
To start using YuJa, you need an account. An account is automatically created when you access Yuja either through a link that your instructor created in your Moodle course or by clicking on the Yuja button in a text editor (see instructions below). Once you’ve done that, you have an account and you’re ready to get started.
How can I use YuJa in Moodle?
With your YuJa account you can
Create, edit, store and share videos
Add videos to forum posts and assignments
Record a video in YuJa
- Click "Create Recording" at the top of the screen
- Select the option “Software Capture”. Note: If this is your first time recording a video with YuJa, click on “Download” to download and install the software.
- Click “Launch Application” to launch the application.
A new window will open and you’ll see what YuJa is preparing to record: your screen, your webcam feed, etc. You will have options on the left side that allow you to make changes or adjustments to what is going to be recorded.
Video (webcam): click the down arrow and click the toggle switch to turn recording on or off for your video camera (e.g., webcam). If the toggle is colored, your video source will be recorded. If it is uncolored, your video source will not be recorded.
Audio: click the down arrow and click the toggle switch to turn recording on or off for your microphone.
Screen: click the down arrow click the toggle switch to turn recording on or off for your screen or to change screens. Note: if you would like to record only part of your desktop/screen, then click “Advanced Settings” > “Capture Selected Area” > Drag cursor over selected area > Save
In the empty field that appears above the video recording, enter a name that you would like to give your video. If you forget this step, YuJa will title the video with the date and time and you can change it later.
Click "Start" to begin the recording.
The window will disappear and you will be given a 3 second countdown. A small menu will open in the lower right corner of your screen with pause and stop controls.
When finished recording your video, click the stop button on the menu that appears in the lower right corner of your screen.
Click “Save” to save the recording (or Delete if you prefer that option).
After the video has finished processing, navigate back to your YuJa media library to view it. Processing time depends on the length of the video and how busy YuJa's servers are, but it should not take more than half an hour.
Record and Share Videos in Moodle
There is more than one way to share your videos for an assignment or discussion post, so if one method doesn’t work, try another.
Add a video to an assignment using the text box tools
Open the assignment to which your instructor has asked you to add a video.
In the submission box, you will have editing options. If they are collapsed into only one line of tools, click on the arrow to open all of the tools and choose the YuJa icon button.
Clicking the YuJa button will open a dialog box that allows you to add or create a video. If you created the video earlier, you can add it by choosing it from the list of videos. If you want to make the video now, choose “Record Content” from the options at the top. You can record a video that will be added to the submission box.
Share a link
For situations where you don’t have the button to insert YuJa media (such as when replying in a forum) or if the button isn’t working for you, you can share a link to a video in your YuJa Media library.
Go to your YuJa account and find the video you’d like to share.
Hover your mouse over the video and you will see a menu appear.
Select “More”.
This will open a new window which has some options on the left side. Choose “Links” and then click the box that has an icon that looks like 2 pieces of paper. This will copy the link for you. Note: there is also an embed code that you can copy if you want to embed your video into HTML.
Paste the link into an email, a document, a Moodle text box, etc. to be shared with your instructor or peers.
