Note: YuJa’s machine captioning does a good job, but there can be mistakes that would hinder someone who is relying on those captions from grasping the full meaning of the video, unintentionally creating barriers to learning. We want all of our students to have an equitable learning experience and have the same opportunities to be successful and supported. Please make sure that you edit your captions for accuracy after creating them.

Videos Created in YuJa

If you created your video using the YuJa desktop app and saved it directly to your Yuja account, the video will be automatically captioned. Once you receive an email that your captions are ready, you will only need to edit the captions to make sure that they are correct.

Videos uploaded from your computer or phone

If you created and/or edited a video on your computer or phone and then uploaded it to YuJa, it will be automatically captioned. Once you receive an email that your captions are ready, you will only need to edit the captions to make sure that they are correct.

Videos imported from outside web sources

YuJa allows you to import or embed videos from outside sources like YouTube or Vimeo. If you import a video from an outside source, you will need to request captions for the video. Even if the video had captions in its original location, the captions will not show once imported, so follow these steps to request captions.

  1. Use the Upload function to import the video using a link to the video.

  2. Wait until you receive an email from YuJa that the video is ready to view.

  3. Hover your mouse over the video you wish to caption and choose “More” from the menu that appears.

  4. A new window appears. Choose “Accessibility from the panel on the left side and then select “Auto Caption”.

The dialog box where you can change the settings of your video with the selections "Accessibility" and "Auto caption" highlighted.

  1. Use the pop-up window to select the language for captions and select “Send Caption Request”.The Caption Request window with the language and request button highlighted.

  2. You will receive an email when your captions are ready.

  3. Check your captions for accuracy.

Quick Tips

When you upload a video from an outside source, you have the choice to import or embed. If you embed instead of import, the video will retain any original captions but you lose the ability to do any editing such as showing only a portion of the video or adding overlays.
