Overview

This tutorial covers how to add a quiz to a video in YuJa. You can also do this during the recording process if you are recording in YuJa.

Types of Quizzes

There are two types of quizzes that you can create: “Video Quiz” or “Playback Quiz”. A video quiz has questions that the student will answer while watching the video. A playback quiz gives points to students for watching a designated percentage of the video.

Create a Video Quiz

The main screen of a Yuja account

In your YuJa account, find the video you would like to use for a video quiz. Hover over the video and choose “More”.

Select “Quizzes” from the column on the left side of the dialog box that appears.

The dialog box that appears when you hover over the video and click "More". It is showing the "Quizzes" interface.

Click “Create Video Quiz”.

The main screen for quiz creation. The title box and the quiz question items are highlighted.

On the next screen, enter a title for the quiz above the video. Begin playing the video until you come to a place where you’d like to ask a question. Click “Add Question” below the video and choose the type of question you’d like to add.

The question creation box is open showing the options for creating a multiple choice question.

When you choose your type of question, a dialog box will appear and you can formulate your question to be added then click “Save”. Continue to add questions as needed to complete your quiz.

A note about accessible quiz questions: Video quiz questions are accessible to those using keyboard shortcuts; however, for those using a screen reader, there’s no signal to tell them that there is a question. They will hear the video stop, but not know that a question has appeared. So, to make sure that your video quizzes are accessible to screen reader users, include in your instructions that there will be questions that appear when the video pauses. Students can then use the Tab key to navigate the question and the screen reader will pick up from there. Additionally, these students will need to know how many questions to expect so they will know when they have completed all of the questions since there is no audio cue.

  1. Once your questions are added, you’ll see them listed in the box to the right of the video.

  2. Click on settings to customize gradebook options.

  3. Preview the quiz to make sure your questions work as expected.

  4. If you change your mind about the quiz, you can discard it.

  5. If you’re satisfied with the quiz, save it.

Note: Do not use the “Post” button to post your quiz. This button is not connected to Moodle. For more information about the correct way to post a video quiz, see our tutorial about posting video quizzes

Create a Playback Quiz

In the next dialog box, you can set up your playback quiz.

  1. Give the quiz a name

  2. Choose the option for “Give full credit based on threshold” to create a scenario where students receive full credit once they reach the percentage that you entered in the box below this option.

  3. Choose the option for “Give credit based on percentage watched” if you want YuJa to give students a score based on how much of the video they watched. For example, a student who watches 75% of the video received a score of 75.

Once you’ve created the playback quiz, you will see several options below the video. You can select “Manage” to publish the playback quiz to a course.
