Books are a Moodle resource that allows instructors to create multi-page resources with a book-like format and table of contents. Multimedia may be embedded and books may be printed entirely or by chapter.
Create a Book
- Make sure you are in edit mode by toggling the switch in the top right corner of your Moodle page.
- Scroll to the section where you would like to create your book and click "Add an activity or resource" to bring up the Moodle activity chooser.
- Select "Book".
- In the settings, you are required to give the book a name. You can also add a description, choose how chapters will be formatted (numbers, bullets, or indented), add restrictions to determine when it will be available to students and add a date of expected completion.
- Once you are satisfied with your settings, make sure you save at the bottom of the page.
Edit a Book
- To edit the contents of a book, scroll down to the book in your Moodle course and click on it to open it.
- Begin by adding a chapter. You are required to enter a name and contents for the chapter. Once you're done, click save changes.
- Once you create a chapter, the contents of that chapter will be displayed on the main page when the book is opened and a table of contents will appear in the side bar on the right side of the screen. Each chapter has several icons beside the name which will help you as you edit your book. The arrow buttons will let you reorder chapters. The gear icon will reopen the chapter for editing. The trash can icon will delete the chapter. The eye icon will hide or unhide the chapter so that you can control visibility. The plus symbol will add another chapter.
Once you have added your chapters and content, your book is complete.
